On, Monday, 13 June 2022, AMVETS Elaine Edwards, Geneva Heyward, Dylester Scott and Patricia Thomas, participated in the first ever State of Georgia Inaugural Women’s Veteran Day celebration. More than 80 female Veterans participated in the celebration and luncheon at the State Capitol. The celebration was hosted by State Representative Sheila Jones and attended by several other State Representatives, elected officials, and VA Representatives.

AMVETS Meeting – 11 June 2022 Featuring One of Our Own – Chief Warrant Officer 4, Percy D. Butler, RET
On June 11, 2022, we held our 2nd in-person/hybrid General Meeting. We had a greater in-person turnout than the previous month. Our members are returning to join and greet fellow comrades. Membership is steadily increasing and we especially look forward to working with our newly appointed Finance Officer, Juan McLemore, and Judge Advocate, Wayland Jordan. We are encouraging all branches of the service, active and retired to join us. We look forward to our younger population, Millennials, and more leading and getting involved! Percy Butler, U.S. Army, CW4, RET. was spotlighted. He held numerous military assignments, including, Headquarters, 15th Ordnance Battalion, Frankfurt, Germany, 57th Ordnance Brigade, and 94th Artillery Group in Kaiserslautern, Germany. CW4 Butler was also inducted into the Adjutants General Corps Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member of the Regiment (DMOR). Thank you, Chief for your service!
AMVETS Member Arthurine Wright Ordained as Minister at Greenforest Baptist Church, Decatur, GA
AMVET Arthurine Wright, a long-time member of Post 44, was graciously ordinated as a minister on June 16, 2022, at Greenforest Community Baptist Church, in Decatur, GA.
The wonderfully and spiritually moving statement of purchase and ordination was delivered by Rev. Pennon Lockhart, Ph.D., who also holds life memberships in the American Legion and is a charter member of AMVETS Post 44.

AMVETS Post 44 – May 14, 2022 In-Person Meeting
After two years of meeting via Zoom (due to the Covid-19 Pandemic), AMVETS GA Post 44, met in person for a Hybrid/Zoom meeting. Well over 40 members attended the general meeting in person with guest speakers and new members joining the post.
Commander Wright welcomed and thanked Members for attending both in person and via zoom. He also thanked AMVETS Henry Turner & Charles Wyatt for coordinating the meeting with American Legion Post 66 Commander Norman Davis and other Post 66 Members that led to a 5-year signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the two organizations. Jonathan Horner (American Legion Post 66-House Manager) provided comments on behalf of American Legion Post 66).
Hillandale Memorial Garden Tribute
Members of AMVETS Post 44, DAV Chapters 90 & 91, and Dekalb County NAACP Branch 5192 presented flags on 26 May 2022.
AMVETS Scharyl Berry, Gail Black, Elaine Edwards & Dylester Scott assisted Members of DAV Chapter 90 (Lawrenceville, GA) and DAV Chapter 91 (Decatur, GA) with placing flags on Military Heroes’ graves. Over 200 flags were placed on graves at Hillandale Memorial Gardens, Lithonia, GA. In total 12 individuals supported this effort on 26 May.
B.E.S.T. Academy High School JROTC Awards Ceremony
Please join us in congratulating Cadet Gabriel Smith on receiving tops honors from B.E.S.T. Academy High School JROTC. An awards ceremony was held at, 1190 Northwest Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 on Tuesday, April 19, 2022.
Commander Albert Wright, Jr. presented the award along with AMVET Arthurine Wright, and Clevon Harmon.

We are pleased to announce that on April 8, 2022, we officially began partnering with The Harold Byrd American Legion Post 66 in sharing building space with them.
This collaboration in part was a joint venture, with AMVET Member, Henry Turner, who also is a member of the American Legion Post 66, and AMVET Charles Wyatt.
Commanders, Albert C. Wright, Jr. (Willie Weatherly AMVETS POST 44) and Norman Davis (Harold Byrd American Legion Post 66) confirmed the MOU.
A meet & greet was also held, where Executive Staff members and AMVET members were shown the beautiful spacious facility.
We will launch our 1st in-person meeting which is scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 1000 hrs.

Leading by Example!
On April 15, 2022 – AMVETS Nathan Johnson (AMVETS Post 44) presented Cadet Johnson (Midtown High School, Atlanta, GA) with the Most Improved Cadet’s Award at the school’s Annual JROTC Awards Ceremony. We are “Proud” of all our Cadets and continue to lead and inspire by example! CONGRATS CADET JOHNSON!
National Vietnam War Veterans Day, March 29, 2022
In recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Day, March 29, 2022, AMVETS Post 44 Commander Albert Wright, Jr, AMVETS Marcia Nathan, and Dylester Scott were honored to issue 29 Vietnam Veterans with a Proclamation from Past Governor Nathan Deal and their choice of Proclamations signed by former Presidents Obama or Trump. Veterans also received a Vietnam War Veteran lapel pin and snacks. AMVETS Members greeted Vietnam War Veterans and Family Members at the Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, in Decatur, GA.
